Victoria Broomer

On October 21, 2014 Victoria Broomer was sworn in as Durham Regional Police Services’ 12th Chief for a day.  Victoria earned the honour of being named Chief when her essay was chosen by a committee of community members last September.

Chief Broomer, outfitted in her new DRPS Police uniform, was picked up from Hillsdale Public School in Oshawa in front of her classmates and teachers. She was brought to Headquarters and sworn in as Chief in front of family, friends and members of the Police Service. Victoria received a few pointers from Chief Paul Martin before continuing on her day around the Region. Victoria was escorted to various police buildings to visit members in Forensic Identification, Communications/911 and Traffic Services Units before heading to the Police Education and Innovation Centre for some hands on training. Chief Broomer finished off her day with a ride in the police helicopter Air 1.  Her role as Chief was completed when she read her essay to a sold-out crowd at last year’s Annual Police Appreciation Dinner and Awards Night.
