If you're in Grade 5, we have an opportunity of a lifetime for you!
All Grade 5 students in Durham Region are invited to participate in the annual Police Chief For A Day contest. Students must write an essay detailing what they would do to make a difference in their community if they were the Police Chief of Durham Region. A selected student from each school board across Durham Region will be invited to represent their school and their school board to present their award winning essay at the Durham Regional Police Service headquarters in Whitby. A judging panel consisting of business, community and policing leaders will vote on a winning essay.
The winning Police Chief amongst all the selected school board appointed Deputy Chiefs will received a custom-made Chief's uniform, a ride in the DRPS helicopter Air 1 and a tour of other specialty units at Durham Regional Police Service. Better yet, the new Police Chief For A Day and their family will also attend the Annual Durham Regional Police Service Appreciation Dinner and Awards Night to present their winning essay to more than 600 guests. To participate in such an incredible experience please ask your teacher for details. Alternatively, please feel free to contact the Durham Regional Police Appreciation and Awards Night Committee.
Each school board will have their own deadline, so it is important you inquire as soon as possible to make sure you can participate. Hint: If you are in grade four, entering into grade five, take advantage of the summer vacation months to prepare and submit your essay in the upcoming school year.
